EMILIO E. MACHADO
Emilio Machado, born in Havana, Cuba, was admitted to the Illinois State and Federal Bars in 1985 and is a former partner with the law firm of Johnson & Bell, Ltd. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana (Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi) and received his J.D. degree from the Northwestern University School of Law.
In 2009, Mr. Machado was selected by his peers as an Illinois Super Lawyer and identified in Chicago magazines' Top attorneys in Illinois for his work in the area of catastrophic injuries and plaintiff's medical malpractice law.
Emilio Machado is actively involved in the legal community as a member and elected official of numerous professional associations. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, and Hispanic National Bar Association, as well as a former president of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois. He was elected to the Illinois State Bar Association Assembly for a three-year term (1995-1998) and is the former chair of the Corporate Outreach Subcommittee. Currently, he chairs the Medical/Legal Relations Committee for the Chicago Bar Association. Mr. Machado is also a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel.
In addition to his practice and association commitments, Mr. Machado makes time to speak at professional events on personal injury subject areas. He has been a speaker for the Illinois State Bar Association, 6th Annual Minority and Women Attorneys’ Conference, speaking on “Supreme Court Rule 220, Treating Physicians and Relevant Changes Made By House Bill 20,” (May 1995); the Chicago Bar Association on the subject of “Evidentiary Matters that Frequently Arise in Medical Negligence Cases,” (June 1994); and the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel annual meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, on the subject of “Hedonic Damages” (1991). He has also written the article, “Hedonic Damages: The Tide Has Turned,” IADC 1991 Fall Seminar.
Emilio Machado was also formerly on the teaching faculty as an Instructor/Trial Advisor of the Edwin F. Mandel Clinic for the University of Chicago, Intensive Trial Practice Workshop.
