Pilots avoid a collision on the runway
Disaster nearly struck at an airport in Geneva, Switzerland on Friday, July 24, 2015. On a busy runway, an Aer Lingus airplane en route to Dublin was increasing speed to begin takeoff and a British Airways plane was preparing to land imminently when an air traffic controller noticed that a Cessna aircraft was mistakenly on the same runway. It is unclear if the Cessna took a wrong turn or was on the runway due to an air traffic controller's instruction. The authorities are investigating the incident.
Air traffic controllers do an incredible job of keeping our skies safe. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), every day, more than 15,000 air traffic controllers are on duty at the 315 air traffic control towers in the United States. The air traffic controllers help guide more than 87,000 flights a day.
The facts that are indicated above were learned through media publications of the event. Like any aviation incident, there will be an investigation into the incident. Fortunately, in this incident there were no fatalities. In a situation where there are injuries or wrongful death, attorneys work with investigators, the authorities and experts to identify what happened. Aviation accidents typically fit into the category of "complex litigation" because of the magnitude of injuries, the possibility of multi-state litigation and pure complexity of determining causation. In an aviation accident, individuals and families who have been affected should hire aviation attorneys like Rubin Machado & Rosenblum, Ltd. who are experienced in the complexities of aviation litigation.
